Will AI replace developers?

Every time I hear that AI will replace developers, I always have the same train of thought.

First thought.

From what I've seen so far, AI can only replace Google for routine tasks. If the task is framework or library-related, it often fails to account for the library's version and sometimes even uses non-existent functions.

The majority of AI-generated content I've seen were pictures, text, animations, and sounds. It manages to handle some linguistic tasks reasonably well though.

However, it feels like people have just found a new toy — generating pictures of themselves, designing interiors, creating car photos, and so on.

What used to be the work of artists is now done by AI. Ironically, this makes authentic human art even more valuable, as authentic work has always been valued more.

But then, occasionally, I come across AI-generated work that is truly impressive, which leads me to my second thought.

Second thought.

Let's imagine AI replaces every developer, teacher, and other professionals. We already have tools like Google Translate, Grammarly, and dozens of other applications that help streamline our work.

Yet, I haven't seen any headlines about linguists or accountants losing their jobs en masse. And even if that does happen, then what?

At that point, there are two options:

  1. Lose your job and struggle to make ends meet.
  2. Adapt to the new reality and find something new. While some professions become obsolete, new opportunities always arise.

The real question is what the future will look like.

But ultimately, it doesn't matter as long as you're flexible enough to adapt to the changes.
